"Zorn at Rest" gouache 14 x 12
Linnea and I journeyed to Sweden to visit family and friends and to travel a bit. We returned, once again, to the small town of Mora to visit the home and museum of the famous Swedish painter, etcher, and sculptor, Anders Zorn (1860-1920). The above gouache was painted while sitting on a bench in the church cemetery--it depicts the final resting place of Zorn and his wife, Emma. The arched headstones centered in the lower third of the sketch is the Zorn grave. The church and cemetery are less than 50 yards from the Zorn Museum, home and grounds, and studio. More sketches from our trip can be seen on the "Landscapes" link.
"I'm just a landscape painter. I look out the window and I see what's going on, and I paint it. While I'm painting it, I also write thoughts about what I see going on out there."
