Andy is a "plein air" painter—a painter who paints from life—preferring to capture shape, color, and the immediacy of the moment from firsthand "seeing." He paints his initial observations and emotional reactions to each subject for what it is—thereby letting each painting stand alone as a personal reflection of a brief moment in time—and left open to interpretation by each viewer.
Using no more than eight colors, Andy has mastered his palette and skillfully captures the entire range of his subjects: landscape, still life, figures, and portraits.
Painting for more than 40 years, Andy works comfortably in any medium with a preference for oil, acrylic, and opaque and transparent watercolor, and charcoal.
Andy’s paintings hang in public and private collections abroad and in the United States. He exhibits regularly, conducts several private painting courses each year, and travels extensively to paint.
During 2007 Andy took time to write two books: On "SEEING" & Painting is a primer for artist and non-artist alike. It offers new ways of "seeing" our visual world and then painting it. "MAKING MARINES" is a "sketchbook" of Andy's drawings and word essays that capture Marine Corps recruit training like it has never been recorded before.  Read more on the "Books" link.
